What comes to mind after looking Oh, Se-Yeol’s painting is that this painter is endowed with a sense of extraordinary humor and this sense of humor is pillared on a pungent comicality. The comicality is not limited to the painted object but also felt in his approach to painting.
He prefers to paint on wood panels instead of canvas, but not a panel of common wood like plywood. It sometimes takes the form of a blackboard and at other times an upside-down platter. In other words, his work is a painting and at the same time an object and vice versa. In a certain sense, this amounts to a challenge to the conventional notions of painting.
